Yeasayer, despite their exhaustion from having just completed a tour of some spots in the South Pacific (meaning Australia, New Zealand and Singapore), kindly dropped not only a free EP entitled I Remember yesterday in light of the old Feb 14th thing, but a video to accompany the title song. They also rigged the EP so that you could send it to somebody who'll appreciate it, via email (for free of course).
It ain't V-day no mo' , but you can still go get it here, cos Painted Palms do an even more blissed out remix of an already blissed out song (it's pretty good) and Villa contribute a remix that begins as gently reflective and builds up to a chopped, marching and vaguely spaced out groove; before it ebbs once more, and does so numerous times in this 8 minute 10 second refix - pretty damn great (my favourite of the two remixes). Here it is:
The video, directed by Sophia Peer, reminds me of a couple of things whilst not really being that reminiscent of either; it opens with some elements that remind me a little bit of Kenneth Anger's sexy town biker film Scorpio Rising, before it gets appropriately Yeasayer kooky, taking me into Wayne's World kinda territory in it's concussed, sandy weird-out.
And don't forget:
...Yes, “I Remember” is a love song.
Don’t be afraid of love.
