Hooray for Little Dragon! The emotional and musical fireworks that this band manage to convey in such a light handed way never fails to surprise and delight me. I had the pleasure of meeting the band in London back in 2007; not long after the release of their self titled, critically acclaimed debut Little Dragon. Now in 2011, we're already excited for the release of their third LP, Ritual Union not yet due out until July later this year, the band have thankfully dropped a little teaser in 'Nightlight'!
Full of their signature melodic clangs and Yukimi's creamy vocal, it seems from 'Nightlight' they're keeping in the direction of their more electronically driven second album rather than the jazzamattaz feel of their first. Check it:
Next little tidbit is of everyone's favourite pre-pubescent alts, PS 22, whom got a visit from Little Dragon for a sing-a-long of one of the tracks off the first album, 'Twice'. The first half of this video is rather lovely, and had me smiling at my screen - despite not even being able to enjoy Yukimi's vocals due to the recording or whatever. I did however, have to shut it down when one of the kids kept hugging the band at the encouragement of their long haired choir master - I couldn't handle it. PS 22 also joined in with Yukimi on 'Recommendation' but that really was just far too sweet for my taste.
And in other Little Dragon news, it seems that the band met Big Boi for the first time last week and have been working on some new music according to his twitter. Big Boi's shuddering beats and rhymes combined with Little Dragon's brand of lithe electronica? Very interesting combination that I will be waiting with bated breath to hear...
