If I could be one song on the Röyksopp's Junior I'd easily pick 'The Girl & The Robot'. It's not only the best on the album, but one of the best singles of the year - and it doesn't matter if your favorite artist is Britney Spears or The Field, it suits both audiences really well. Robyn's spooky vocals and some trance-like synths give the song the depth it needs to transcend pretty much all the rest of the modern pop music.
The video is a literal interpretation of the song. The girl, played by Robyn, is always waiting for her man Robot that she bought from (or was introduced to by) Torbjørn and Svein, in their first appearance in their clips. Although generally quite literal, there's a metaphoric scene in which the red robot is working as a gardener and seeds some plants - somehow this may or may not have gotten Robyn pregnant (check the result in the final stages of the video).
Kris Menace darkens the song in his seven minute long remix, while Joakim keeps the long aspect but makes it more danceable. Chateau Marmont plays with the pitch and speed while making everything quite like an '80s robot story. Even though these remixes are good, none of them conquers the glory of the original song.
'The Girl and the Robot' will be out by the 15th of June, while Junior is out already.
