Half of The Knife, Fever Ray, has announced that the third single 'Triangle Walks' from the critically acclaimed self titled album Fever Ray will be dropping on July 20th in the UK. Amongst the 8 remixes on the tracklisting are tracks from Ben Hoo and Tiga.
If the original track is a tropical journey through the rainforest, Ben Hoo's Still Frame Remix is a chillout kind of affair. It's a bit of a melodic meditation, as the only tension in the track aside from the vocal is provided by a couple of agitatedly plucked guitar strings; balancing the gentle, chilled out muffled piano, and airy synths. All of which combine to make Karin Dreijer Andersson's vocal sharper in contrast.
Tiga contributes with a Pharrell-esque interpretation, that has a beat that nods at 'Drop It Like It's Hot', and this remix too, is hot. Beginning with cut up vocals, a minimalist hiphop beat and handclaps, it's at a slightly faster tempo than the original and definitely more of a kicking jam. Then half way through, Tiga shows more of his colours building the track with distorted dirty guitars and a equally dirty synths to accompany Karin's vocals.
The evolution of the track is brilliant, taking it on a darker, far more bumping journey than the original; a flat dry door knock to take you to the outro, with sustained bass synths that also turn to dirty dirty goodness before evaporating stealthily, leaving you wanting more.
