I don't like Ellie Goulding's 'Starry Eyed'. Sorry. It doesn't do it for me. The song is basically way overproduced: the synths have a cheesy europop feel, Ellie vocals are used without space to breathe, the break with heavy hip hop drums doesn't make any sense and that annoying effect of chopping vocals that I like to call the "Frankmusik effect" is used a lot. All that having been said, I have to agree that the vocal melodies are great - it just needs a better bed to lay down on. And that bed can be found on the b-side of the single - how convenient!
Russ Chimes makes a statement, using all the good elements from the original song (the vocal) in a classic house track that could go and fight for a spot on the Top 10. The piano, drums and the synth are absolutely brilliant together and the remix is a total hit. And luckily this time, The Record Label agreed with me (before I even had this opinion) and released the following video.
Can somebody explain to me those, ahem, 'special effects'? They're hideous! So let's ignore The Record Label shooting a good move in the foot with that video by erasing it from our minds and enjoying the amazing remix below.
P.S. Here's the original version of the video without all the stars, glossy lights and Russ Chimes...well, you can't have it all, kiddo.
