I’m not going to pretend that I know anything about Ellen Allien. Actually, I’ve been hiding from her music for a long time. I don’t even know why I checked her new video that premiered yesterday at xlr8r, but the fact is, I did - and I loved it.
‘Sun the Rain’, the video, is like a sunny, less odd version of The Golden Filter’s ‘Solid Gold’ which is delicious to watch, especially on a grey winter's day. The song has a riff quite similar to Interpol’s introspective moments, brightened by the way she produces her drums. While the voice is covered with effects, Ellen still manages to make the sentiments flow. This track is as good as a peaceful Sunday morning!
Apparently her fans don’t dig her new career turn that much - and this is why I’m going to check her new album, Dust, as soon as I finish this post. If there is just another ‘Sun the Rain’ will be more than worth it!
