Fool's Gold art director Dust La Rock is back with a new exhibition, this time gracing Los Angeles' HVW8 Art + Design Gallery, with his latest body of work entitled Joking Victim.
Dust La Rock does the whole 'artist as the art' thing here; and these works are an exercise in mixed media. Using his body, blood and other fluids, as well as submitting himself to a dominatrix and as the star in a short film 'The Ritual', Joking Victim explores "pain versus pleasure, free will versus destiny, fetishism, the occult and mortality...It's a study in duality, exploring the multitude of ways in which people use and abuse their bodies to satisfy divergent impulses."
All well and good - and not a triangle or skull in sight, so far.
And of course, in support of the opening, Fool's Gold producers and DJs Jokers Of The Scene, who's latest single was inspired by La Rock’s exhibit, and are also responsible for the soundtrack for 'The Ritual'.
And if you're around on the 13th too, the HVW8 gallery will be hosting the debut of Bruce LaBruce's latest queer cinema horror film L.A. Zombie, with limited edition prints by La Rock and LaBruce featuring the film's star, Francois Sagat. It'll be a cool opportunity to meet LaBruce, with a Q&A following the screening. If you can, go catch that shit, since it ain't allowed to be screened in a whole bunch of places.
LA, let us know how it is?
