Just in time for the European summer, Animal Collective has a new video out which reminds you that they are an art band. Although 'Summertime Clothes' is the poppiest moment of the already pop Merriweather Post Pavilion, the North American trio went crazy on the video. Directed by Danny Perez, the video shows through dance from the Brooklyn based Flex dance crew the transition of the winter to summer - at least this is what I, a normal, non-arty person, gets from it.
Tribal beats, looped synthesizers, coordinated claps and some bright vocals on a track that cannot be described as anything but psychedelic pop. But that's only if we don't mention the three remixes that come along with the single to be released on the 29th of June - because they all transform the track into something completely different.
Dam-Funk remix - the best one - is a blend of soft synths and a strong, constant beat, while Leon Day AKA L.D.'s remix lays hyperactive beats on hazy, anaesthesized vocals. Zomby's Analog Lego mix on the other hand, is really shit and doesn't make sense at all - which I suspect might have been the original purpose.
If you haven't heard Merriweather Post Pavilion yet, you must. It's one of the best albums of the year. Now I just hope they release 'Also Frightened' as the next single.
